STEELMAN, BETTY D. – 92, of Egg Harbor Township NJ, passed away on March 5th 2016. Betty is predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years John Steelman, her parents Alice and James Deery and her brother James Deery. She is survived by her good friends Evelyn and Jack Rush and Teri and Mitch Somers. Betty was born May 7th 1923 in Atlantic City NJ where she resided. She also lived in Ventnor, Linwood and Egg Harbor Township. Betty served as a Navy Wave during World War II, and became a charter member of the Women’s Military Service Memorial located at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Betty worked for Bell Telephone Co., Boardwalk National Bank in Atlantic City and the Prudential Insurance Co. in Linwood, NJ, and made many friends at each one. She was also a member of The Atlantic Heritage Society, Somers Point Historical Society, Linwood Historical Society and The Great Egg Harbor Historical Society. The Steelman family was a part of each one. Betty and her husband, John, enjoyed the auto races and riding their motorcycle with side car in the annual Toy Run. Betty’s life was complete with her relatives and good friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Wednesday evening March 9th from 7 pm to 9 pm at Middleton-Stroble and Zale Funeral Home 304 Shore Road, Somers Point. Services will be held Thursday March 10th at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Zion Cemetery, Egg Harbor Township. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the above Historical Societies.
